Urbanyi felt sorry for the semi final defeat

Skipper Umair reacts after missing a golden chance later in the game
Dhaka, BANGLADESH – Maldives coach Urbanyi felt sorry for the game as they missed the finals after the loss against Afghanistan in the semi finals. Speaking to Maldivian media present in Dhaka, coach said that he was sad and disappointed over the loss.

“I feel sorry about this game. That was the easiest way to the finals. We started a bit slow. We had a big chance to score in the first half. If we had scored the first goal, it would have been different”

“Usually I don’t comment about other teams. But Afghanistan is not a strong side. It was just our bad form or some kind of discomfort that we didn’t win this game”

Speaking about the chances Maldivian strikers missed coach said that they need more games.

“We had couple of chances. Nafiu is a young guy and this is his first game and this is his first international tournament”

“When Ashfaaq is playing, some of the players believe he is the one who has to shoot and they try to pass the ball to him. So that kind of correlation is not working on what we are doing normally. Because of the young guys it would happen”

Ashfaaq was seen playing in a more central role rather than as the first striker and when asked by maldivesoccer.com on the reason, coach said it was not part of the plan.

“We never planned for Ashfaaq to play behind Nafiu. I asked him to go to the first line to get the ball over there. But he came too deep and I told him that there is no way for him to score from that position. So that happened. It was not part of the plan. The plan was to play Ashfaaq and Nafiu.”

“We only missed the goal. Nafiu is a talented guy. He was young. That was the point. Because of his talent he got the chance, but he missed. But after the chance, he was scared or disappointed”

Speaking about the performance of Fair (Sentey) coach said his effort was alright.

“Sentey did ok. I think we had four or five chances which were stopped offside. I don’t know why it was lack of concentration or lack of education. I told the players to think about a basket ball game. If the player shoots behind the three point line he gets three points. But if he steps in he gets two points. So I asked them to look for that line. They must learn. But the effort was good”

Speaking about the red card shown to Hussain Latheef after the game, coach said that they lacked experience.

“That shows that experience player or a pro player in our level, it takes time. We should start with that kind of effort during the game. We have 20 players so we can use the other players”

Speaking about the bronze medal game, coach said that they would prepare for the game.

“Our team is more disappointed than India. I believe we can prepare for the game. We are good enough to win the game against India”

“I think they will find enough challenge why to win that game. We are disappointed. They would find a good mentality to find some way to deal with the disappointment. It would be a good chance. I am sad that we did not finish with a better one.”

I know that Maldives soccer will not publish this comment. Will you guys still blame the minister or the government for the defeat. Is it the presidnt or the minister who appointed a looser for the third time as the coach. who should be responsible for not training the u-23 players not in the senior team. Didnt the F.A technical people or the coach himself know that those players were resting at zero during their season break. Is thta there are no coaches who could follow a given training schedule for them. After loosing the championship is it time for the coach to enjoy a holiday. to make a holiday how many days through the year was he working. when bimma said that the national coach is not attending the league matches it was not a joke and we could see that from his selection and his positioning of players. Although its binmaa he an ex-national player and a senior coach of this country. was it a exhibition game for Urubani to use all the players and test them. didn't he know that it would be easy for him to play against India in the semi final? Any way we do mistakes and the same time we learn from them. so Maldives soccer guys lets wake up. I know you guys are capable to write the truth so specially shimax you need to think about sports if you are writting under this name. just leave your political anger and needs aside and write the wrongs of our football, critisize and lets make a good change for Maldives Soccer. lets not talk about who the preident of the country is or who the minister is but lets talk what we need from them and what we need from the F.A. Maldives. If Hiyalee and Azim cannot tolerate to work as neutrals they should resign or they should leave their political colours aside and where the red, green and white. Hey the soccer fans of Maldives lets fight together for a better soccer nation.

Hey Guys! What's with this URBANYI phobia you are having? We lost, we were poor, plain and simple! The coach can only do so much and it's up to the players to deliver. I am baffled as to why there is no mention of the super MANAGER we have had in these tournaments. Isn't he supposed to take part of the blame, after all he was given executive powers even to sack the coach! I have heard that there was no discipline inside the team and that the manager was not present at the training sessions. Also that there was no teamwork off the field. Apparently players can eat at whatever time they wish to, they can go to sleep at whatever time they feel like...and the list goes on. So wonder why you guys don't comment on the Manager's Performance

We need to get rid of FAM chairman Azim and get someone like Mohamed Kaleem who can do a very professional job to develop our football. Azim is playing dirty politics and destroying Maldivian football.

My message is to the Maldiv's coach , after the match he said, Afghanistan is not a strong team , I wanna tell him, 1st of all, before the match you said to Afghanistan, " Stop us ", and that is what we did, you thought afghanistan is an easy team to beat, you were wrong, now Just Shut your dirty moutch, If Afghanistan is not a strong team, then they could have lose a match, or Maldive's could have beaten Afghanistan, Shame on your, Shame on your pre-match statement and shame on your post-match statement,

I dont think Urbanyi is going to survive this. Best thing for him will be to resign. He still got days ahead of him. Its not only the fans even players is going to blame him. While the players could not play 4 or 5 passes without losing the ball there is not much a coach can do. I disagree with Urbanyi and may be most of Maldivians Afghan was a better team in this tournament than us. They beat India Pakistan before. Simply saying some thing and repeating over and over does not make it true. we are not the best in the region. and certianly not miles ahead of other teams. we have to stop this nonsense and look what we can do to improve. A lot of work is needed.

its sad that v cudnt reach the final. but wat v've to believe is, that was our level! m not shockd, for sure. even b4 d tournament had started, many beleived that maldives would not make it into the final. coz we all know that our junior teams are not that strong compared to other teams. n wat v need to remember is, there r no minnows in our region, as there r no outstanding teams in SAARC as well. in SAFF c'ship held in maldives n srilanka, the so called super-power of our region just barely escaped from Bhutan! so r there any minnows in SAARC?? may b in 20th century! so, its not time to blame our coach. i agree with those guys who say that he cud not win a gold in three tounaments. thats right. but i wont call it as a failure! i dont deny my admiration for Urbanyi either, as hez one of the best coaches i hav seen in this region. wat v hav to believe is, he is trying to change the way maldives play the game. we do not want to see the so called 'english' football (only they themselves call it english) which india played in SAFF c'ship final. its not the score which always matters in football - the most beautiful of all. if so, they wont call it as the most beautiful of all. lets give some more time to the coach to build the team. its not an easy task. everytime v change the coach, he need two or three tournaments just to know our level n to know all the players well. it wud b a waste again! n finding a good coach for a team like maldives is never easy. best of luck maldives. n one more thing we hav to believe is, that was the very first international experience for most of the players in the team! n they r playing for U23! isnt this embarrassing? is it Urbanyi or the fam who should b responsible for this?? FAM never gives any importance for juniour teams! so y bother wen they cudnt win gold? best of luck maldives. n best of luck Urbanyi. i have faith in u.

We need to open our eyes and look staright. 2020 is right, hard working needed. Maldives is no better than any other team in south asia. We need to accept it and start working harder to improve. Blaming coach wouldnt do any good.

It's not that resigning the coach would settle or solve the impacts of football in the Maldives. we need honest, disciplined and serious footballers. We need serious football tournaments, international games, training facilities, Serious Federation, Youth Programs, Good Coaches, Opportunities for players to improve, Opportunities from abroad. First of all, we Football is Fair Play. But in Maldives it has already mixed with Politics. Believe it or not this is the reality. The Federation, Associations, Teams, Even the Players are being disgraceful to football. Look at Assad Ali. He is a promising player but on top of politics. Its time to have a good plan, act as a free independent sport for all. At least from the initial stage again. Together we can. One other point is the media role. Praising too much. Maldives Football isnt progressing. This is the reality. Its time to face the realty and get into a new beginning.

I agree with facebook comment..Coach needs time and i believe he is building a youth team..You cannot achieve success in a night..What would have happened if kaley had scored?..Stop blaming the coach..Blame the players who could not deliver, but on the other hand they are young and we cant let them take all the blame..Coach is right when he said everyone thinks dagadey should score all the time and the players are so much pressured by media and other to do this..Let others show their colors..Maldives is not a single player team..Learn what football is about and then start commenting..not just because you have free internet at home..

This is what we say, i am very sure our maldivian, coach is a coach , with a big mouth, he is unable to proof what he said in action, i am advicing u my coach, ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS. urbanyi, were failed in three times , also players had done mistakes by mistakes in very near times, so there are mistakes from coach side and even frm players sides too. today we cant agree a defeat from semifial,. because our players are well enough to reach finals , and even champs too. coach its a big shame to u, if u are not able leave maldivian football team, u might be talk in big b cause , were worked as a presenter before, u reach to maldives. so come back, and start to prepare for our local foot ball season.

I think this is a problem of our mentality. Everytime we lose, the coach shud not be blamed. This is not a Pro Country, that within a year or a month we can do such great like England or Germany. We are talking of a third world team who is at 147 of world ranking. Maldives. Please understand, the coach is here just for an a year, give him time. He would surely do well in 2 years time I am sure. Look at Manchester United and Arsenal, their success is the sustainablity and matured mentality with TIME. not a year, not two years not three.....so this simply means time is required. I would say give time to Urbani, he will do great with a continuous 2 years in office, BUT , BUT , BUT only if FAM arranges experience matches regularly. Good luck Maldives and Urbani.

All of us seem to believe that we are far ahead from our neighboring countries. But the reality is we are not. Yes we did win gold once, but we barely got it. And if Ashfaq was not present, I would say that we would not have won the tournament. He is like the driving force behind our football. But that's not how it should be. We should be far ahead, Yes, we are not there yet. Our players need to become better, physically and technique too. We have to win comfortably with our neighbors before we start to think like we do now. We have to face reality. We need to do more work and improve.

the stupid maldivians are calling for COACH to resign...these people have no head...doesnt watch whats going on internationally...a coach need minimun 2-3 years...and the team needs a coach for that long..otherwise how can a team develop playing different strategies under different coaches every year... URBAYI STAY...WE STILL TRUST YOU.
[ badu ] posted on: 06 Feb 2010
its not the coach who have to be only sorry. but everyone have to be in maldives as far as i am concern. we make our players out of the world when ever they win a match. we must push the players to perform. this is not a club they are playing. this is for the country. they need to play from heart not for bouns. and it seems that just winning one tournament we have to start from the drawing board again. what a pity

Thanks to my Afghan players. They are great. They showed how capable they are because they are restructuring their performance after a three-decades of war in the home country. I do say sorry for those that they say Afghanistan is nothing, but I strongly say that Afghanistan is a country that is just a postwar country and is gaining its status too rapidly. We are growing in all aspects of governance, politics and now sports. Afghanistan is a tremendous country in all aspects to defeat its oppositions in whtever way and however style it is. If we see Afghanisan in sports, they are getting favorites in Cricket and got its one day status too rapidly, this didnt happened to any other country of cricket in their histories to get one day status rapidly. We are defeating countries in all sports and we are supportive of our sports champs all over the world. Congratulations Afghan champs and sorry for those who lost against Afghanistan which is so far called a "country of nothing". But, remember we are everything and we are precious. Afghanistan is the heart of Asia. Long live Afghanistan and we proud of you, my lovely country!

Hey you guys, i am not from maldives. However, i would like to add comment to what some fans have been writing about coach and maldivian football in general. I totally support"2020" views and comments. You guys how can you expect win when you don't have strong grassroot football. To expect winning in football you've got to have good players. For that you need youth academy and grassroot football. For this team that played in SAFF U-23 even if you had bought top qualified coaches you wouldn't expect big win, why? Because the coach can only strategize and prepare players to win but if the players themselves aren't that good no top coach can ensure win. So, stop blaming Urbani and ask FAM to have youth football academy and more competition at the youth level. Think about this, " If i started learning piano when i was say 5 yrs old, then when i am 23 you would certainly expect me to play a good piano, wouldn't you?" But then i have to keep on playing too to get better, get it!

The performance so far hasn't been average, not too good, not too bad. Gotta give a much mucy better performance in the Third Plavce match. Good Luck to our youngsters and the coach and teh rest of the squad. Real fans support the team and the squad whether we lose or win! When we win, lousy fans go over the moon and don't make any comments about the future. When we lose, the only thing they say is sack the coach. It's the same in all tournaments with these uninspiring fans! AS a maldivian fans, I think our team did really well in the SAFF tournament, but was unlucky. The Youtyh team's got to improve. We need Urbanyi to stay with us at leats another year or two. Look at the World's best teams. The Coach's their for years and the squad doesn't change much, apart form bringing one or two fresh blood. Most of the coaching stff and the main team stay the same and build their way up. and that's the way forward forus too! Looking forward to agood game in the Third Place match.

In loose... we cant only blame the Coach, (I am not even defending him) but its all of us.. I mean in order to be a winning side first we have to strengthen our League... No one Damn on our league last year... but when National team plays "every ones are behind dhivehi football" All what we have to do is give sum effort to develop our league b4 lifting some trophies outside the country. We should come and support our clubs and make some it calls real football fantasy. Criticizing National team when they loose is not the only thing in our hand to throw away. Think twice what you have done to make players more confidence by giving them pressure on to them in domestic games last season. For sure most who talks here have not witnessed at least 2 or 3 games even in last season. But funny thing is when national team loose we have our big mouths open.
