Maldives players greet supporters after winning bronze medal in SA Games
Dhaka, BANGLADESH – Maldivian national team coach, Urbanyi has said that he is proud of his boys after winning the bronze medal in South Asian Games. He also noted that this moment could be his last under his current contract. Maldives won the game against India in penalty shootout after a goalless draw in 90 minutes.

“I think we played good football today. It is kind of a lesson in football even to India. We could score 5 or 6 I don’t know how many goals. I told the players before the game that I don’t care about the result, if we play the way we practice. I am very happy because of this game. This is kind of a final moment in my contract. I think this is the reason I am here. To create some kind of football like this one. The reason it did not happen before might be that it needs more time. They played today without much pressure and I think they enjoyed the football today. I am proud of my boys.”

When maldivesoccer.com asked on the reason why Maldives started slow in the match, coach dismissed the claim.

“This is a stupid comment. We created 3 chances in the first half. We started in a good rhythm. We played more balls to the back because we did not want to use long balls. We did not start slow.”

Maldivesoccer.com also asked about how he sees the future, he said he don’t know what’s next.

“I have the contract till the end of this month. I don’t know what the next is. I hope that I gave something to the players. I hope they can use it with me or without me. It doesn’t really matter. I enjoyed all moment of this tournament and the previous one as well. So we’ll see what the next step is. But this game gave everybody a good answer. Don’t criticize that much, but to give support. Players need support to give better performance. Just like when there was a high jumping final before the game. If you want the athlete to go over his best, you need to give support.”

Urbanyi noted that he will carry some beautiful moments from Maldives.

“The experience in Maldives was wonderful. I am very happy and I feel good about this year. The mentality and the way of people talking to me and even some criticism coming, it is not a problem, it was nice. I can imagine living in your country. That’s the best thing I can do. Now I became a Maldivian as well. What happens in the future, I don’t know. But part of my heart will stay for sure. So I appreciate every single support I got.”

When maldivesoccer.com asked on the reasons why Umair was rested, coach said he was having an ankle injury.

“Umair got an ankle injury. He tested the leg before the game. But I told him that he does not need to take risk. Important AFC Cup games coming up for VB and he needs to take rest if he does not feel 100% confident. Life is just like that. Shafiu played a very well game. Mode played the best game. Naatte played the best game as a right defender. The way they played was good”

When asked about how he felt when Maldives faced the penalties, he said he told the players to enjoy the penalties.

“I told them enjoy the penalties as well. Enjoy every single second of the penalties. We deserve to win the game. Whatever happens, we are the winners of the match. This game was 0 -0. That’s the official result. We did not win the game, but we won the penalty shootout and won the bronze medal.”

Maldives team will be back on Wednesday night.

u've done a gud job guys! i appreciate the hard work u've done, Urbanyi! though the media is not satisfied with the bronze, we are satisfied. we understand the hardwork u guys did. journalists will neva b satisfied! coz otherwise they wont have enough material to fill up their pages! i really dont understand y they r blaming our coach. dont u guys understand football?? football is not jus winning gold medal. look at the changes he has brought to our football. i dont want a gold medal by playing the famous 'boduboalha' which we used to play before. n thats wat he is trying to do. within this short time, he has done wat he wanted. n to complete his task, he needs more time. u hav done a fantastic job, coach! i saw an article in one of the local news papers saying that the coach has failed in all the tournaments he was in charge of. wat do they mean by failure? so, that means brazil failed in '98, germany failed in 2002 n france failed in 2008... is that so? u guys are talking all RUBBISH! by the way, its nice to see that most of the fans hav accepted wat the coach has done for us. n they hav faith in Urbanyi. the comments on this page alone proves this. thanx coach, we'll b glad to see u again with our national team in the very next tournament!

i really like Urbani style of football.... at least this time, team are trying to play a passing game....not boduboalha.....but passing type of football will take time....so for all those local boduboalha coaches except coach Heena....train ur team to play a passing game of football...now its time to change.....my vote for u coach.... practice makes perfect

i really support u coach urbany..we re really improving with u coach..2009 saff championship we lost in penalties n in sag 2010 semi against afghan we played well but 1 goal destroyed the results..we played well in the game..afghan created 2 attacks to our goal..2 in 1 they destroyed us..n we have some other problem also.. giving bonus to senior players..they complain a lot to sports ministry but sports ministry ignored them..i think in modern world everything is money so some players are not wot they are in sag 2010..n i think coach is doing a fantastic job.

Yes, please pack your bags and leave. You have let the nation down 3 times and you should still be around, I dont think so. Winning bronze is not an achievement. You should leave NOW

Congratulations.... Our boys and Coaching staffs... weldone.. Where are those people who blame our team and coach... I want say something... in last edition of SA Games whit was held in Sri Lanka , our team eliminated from group stage. that time our team was bone of the best selection of U23... That team include, Ashfaq, Ashfan, Kudattey, Baka, Shinaz hilmy, Akram... so on... but our team failed to reach semi.... This time we played well in Semi final and third place play off and we won bronze medal.. This is good achievement.. Though we dont getany help from any euro conutry.. but Afghanistan geting help from Germany some of their players playing in Germany, and the guy who score afghan most goal in this SA game is playing Norway 2nd division.. Nepal ge t aid from Netherlands.. India got huge backing from Fifa.... So I'm proud of our team performance.. But Most of Maldivians are blaming the team and coach when they lost a single match.. thats not good... I think now Maldivian are playing good game, they can pass the ball good.. and try to play passing game... We need more practice and more experience... I think with this coach, Mr Urbanyi is good. he needs more time to shape our teams...

thanx urbanyi for what you did for us as we all know you gave your maximum and worked very hard unfortunately it didnt match with our expectations. this was the painful part of this total commitment. as you believe there wil be critism this is part of football as far as if you cant produce result.wish a very bright future in your personal life.

Good revange. Maldives & India must not play in final always. This shows improving level of foot ball in our region. We all so have young team like India cox most of them are under 19 players and 4 are under 16 of age. Congrates! We won all the medals in past 3 years. 2008 gold, 2009 silver and in 2010 bronze. So let's start the series again with a gold

nice. coach i think u need to stay with our team, u can make us real proud of our team. i think the way u handle and manage the team is good. after all its a ball game , no one wins every game. but i see a good future in football with you. hope u will stay but if not good luck and im proud of our team with the 3 tournaments u were with.
