Ali Umar celebrates his goal in the match
Male’, MALDIVES - VB managed to edge past Vyansa in a hard fought match in today’s Dhiraagu Dhivehi League. The two sides’ encounter in the first round was won by VB by a single goal. In today’s match, VB won the match by 3 – 1. Vyansa got a golden opportunity to equalize, but the penalty taken by their captain and assistant coach, Naaz (Aakey) went wide of the goal.

Ali Umar opened the account for VB in the 8th minute. The defenders could not clear the ball from the defense line and Huseyn managed to get the ball. He gave a simple through pass to Ali Umar who was left unmarked inside the penalty area. He scored an easy goal to continue his superb form.

Vyansa managed to draw the game in the 36th minute. Githrees scored the equalizer from a blunder by Imran. He tried to catch the cross by Solah, but lost the ball and Githrees just pushed the ball into the empty net.

VB took the lead for the second time in the match in the 56th minute. Assad headed the ball into the far corner of the goal from a cross by Huseyn.

Vyansa got a golden opportunity to equalize from a penalty spot. But the penalty taken by their captain, Naaz (Aakey) went out.

VB increased their tally in the 92nd minute by Habeeb. It was his first goal in VB colours.

After the match, VB’s coach Vanli said he was delighted of the win.

“I’m very happy that we won the game. We got so many chances to score but still there are some problems with the players’ combination and we need to sort out that soon”

“One of our target was not to lose a game without Ashfaaq and we managed to do it. He would most probably join from next week”

“I had to substitute Ali Umar because the strikers wasted a lot of chances. Ali Umar was also playing as a midfielder because the strikers did not get much support from the midfielders. However, Umair played very well in this match”

Meanwhile, Vyansa’s assistant coach, Naaz (Aakey) said that they played very well today in spite of the result.

“We played a good game today. The problem is by the end of the game, the result is always on the oppositions’ side.  Not ours”

“We got good chances to equalize. I missed the penalty and I feel I did not take the responsibility in that situation being the captain”
